A friend of mine recently turned me on to the music of Plushgun, a Brooklyn based band which very well may be the verge of making it big. Plushgun is decidedly indie rock, and I use the catch all term intentionally-- there's a fair share of New Wave and Synth Pop sprinkled throughout their songs. Close your eyes, and it very well could be 1985 at times. With less lycra and fewer jheri curls, obviously. But in a modern context, it all melds together rather seamlessly and produces a sound 1 part nostalgia and 2 parts innovation.
On a personal note, my friend tells me the guys in the band (Daniel Ingala on lead vocals, Taylor Armstrong on guitar and backing vocals, and Matt Bogdanow on drums and backing vocals) are incredibly down to Earth and friendly. Ingala apparently wrote the entire album on his computer and then enlisted Armstrong and Bogdanow to tour with him. Now, I'm fairly tech savvy, but I'm not sure I could manage such a thing. Pretty impressive. My friend and they all went bowling at Pin Up Bowl in St. Louis, MO (where I enjoyed my 21st birthday, incidentally), and I am tres jealous.
Their song, "How We Roll," was recently featured on an episode of MTV's Real World: Brooklyn. Maybe they'll find their way onto the soundtrack of Real World: Washington, DC? Only time will tell. Give the song a listen below:

Aw, I love Plushgun. There's this one song - Just Impolite - that I can never get enough of.
I love Union Pool and Dancing in a Minefield too...they've been on heavy rotation for a while now!
It was a very, very good night.
i gave a listen, not really a big fan. For me, a song can have one major turn-off aspect, which just ruins the rest of the good stuff. Here, it's the line "this is how we roll." I'm a little sick of hearing about how people roll. Other than that, though, i like the sound.
good stuff...
good stuff! Looking forward to hearing more from them! Thanks for the find
Aak-- you should listen to some of the other stuff. Try "Dancing in a Minefield" or "Just Impolite" on for size.
I think they're decent. Kinda highschoolish, though, don't you think?
i think they were using the term "how we roll" sarcastically...the song is about being a loser
